Southcentral utilities reassure RCA they are prepared for winter
Absent a catastrophic event, such as an earthquake or volcanic eruption that takes out power lines or natural gas pipelines, Southcentral utilities believe they are fully capable of supplying enough energy this winter to keep the lights and heat on across the region. Government, business and residential customers may have to help by dialing back their power demands on the coldest days of the winter, but energy supplies should be manageable the next two winters, utility officials told the Regulatory Commission of Alaska on Wednesday.
